Monthly Art Journal - Just Like Fire!

Hello friends!
I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend!  Mine was very busy and I was getting worried that I wouldn't have my AJ page done in time for this post!  But I made it!  Yay!

**For those of you just following along:  I have joined together with my talented blog friend Asha from Sunny Summer Crafts to inspire each other through our Art Journal Pages and share them on our blogs on a monthly basis with you to maybe inspire our other crafty friends.  Perhaps you will be inspired to give AJ pages a try!  We just want to share our love of crafting through this wonderful mixed media art form.  If you would like to see my past AJ pages, you can CLICK HERE to have a look at them all.**

Today my AJ page inspiration comes from a song by one of my favorite artist P!nk.  If you have small children, perhaps you're familiar with the song from the movie "Alice Through the Looking Glass"?  The song "Just Like Fire" has inspired my page today.  Here's a music video in case you don't know the song or the artist:

I took some of the "personality" from P!nk and the title of the song to come up with my page:
I would like to give credit for the image that I've used on this, but I've had this on my computer and I know I got it from the Internet somewhere, but not sure from whom I got it.  If you know where this image came from, please leave me a comment so that I can edit my post for credit.  Thank you!

I thought this image went perfectly with my theme and so I've been saving it to use on my page somehow, but I wasn't quite sure how I was going to fit it in!  It took me a while to get it all colored in, but I printed it out on my computer, colored it with my Copics and tore the paper around it to add to my page.

To create the background, I have used some red, orange and yellow acrylic paints and applied it with baby wipes.  I was trying to get some "swirls" with the yellow color in the background to represent the fire.  Here's a better look at that:
You can better see the paint in the background here and where I've used the baby wipe to pull up some of the yellow color into the orange and blend it into the red.

For the fire in the background, I've used my Cricut machine to cut out some fire flames.  I've used the negative from that to create a stencil for the bottom of the page.  I used some inks to blend in the fire colors through the stencil, sprayed it with water to tone the color down a bit and blotted up the extra.  This faded the  boldness of the colors in the flames a bit.  I then took some Ranger Micro Glaze to go over the flames to make them resistant to water.

For the letters, I took My Favorite Things Well-Connected Alphabet and stamped the lettering over the background and also onto my cut out flames that I had already ink blended over and covered with Micro Glaze as well.   I've used some Jet Black Archival ink to stamp them out with.  Then I attached the cut out flames as well as the colored image over the background with Ranger Multi-Medium Matte.  Some of the flames are popped up with foam tape.

After I attached the image and flames, I took some gold spray to add to the background.  You can also see where it went over the image and the lettering.  Which I thought was fine and added some more interest to everything.

Here, you can see where I've also taken my Faber-Castel Pitt markers to go along the edge of the torn image.  I've also very lightly went along the flames in the background with a gray color just to give the flames in the background a bit of dimension.  I've also used the black Pitt marker to create the black borders on each side of my page.  I took my white gel pen to add the stitch lines.  I then took a 2-way glue pen and added some fine clear glitter over portions of the flames for more sparkle.  Lastly, I've added a swirly rhinestone in the upper right side of the page.

Here is a closer look at the details of the coloring on the image:
You can better see some of the sparkle that I've added to the image with Stickles gold.  You can also see a few of the gold splatters in the background and the sparkle on the flames.

I have stuck with a red, orange and yellow color palette for everything on this including the coloring on the image.  The only blue/aqua color is on her eye.  I took a white gel pen to add some dot detail to parts of the image too.

I hope you've enjoyed my AJ page today and got inspired!
Please pop on over to Asha's blog to see her AJ page as well...I know it will be awesome!

Thanks so much for dropping in today and I'll see you soon!

Florals for Cute Card Thursday

Hello friends!
I'm popping in  (a tad bit late) to share with you that a brand new challenge is up over at
CUTE CARD THURSDAY
This week we would love to see your "Floral" creations!
We hope that you will stop by to check out the inspiration and play along with us!

Here's what I've made for the challenge:
With this strange and warm weather we've been having, it has really put me in the mood for Spring and reminding me that it is just around the corner!  I also haven't played with my Lawn Fawn goodies for a while, so I wanted to get them out and play.

For the background, I have used the LF Stripey Backdrop die and cut it twice from some kraft card stock.  After it was cut, I turned one of them over to make the criss-cross pattern so that it looks like lattice or a trellis for flowers.  I've also taken the LF Woodgrain Backdrops to stamp a woodgrain looking pattern over the "lattice" with the same ink color.  I've attached this over a sky blue A2 sized to folding card base.

For the flowers, I have used the LF Flutter By stamp set with the coordinating dies to cut them out.  I've colored them with my Copic markers and brushed over the flowers with my Wink of Stella glitter pen.  For the butterfly, I have layered two butterflies that are colored and popped the wing out so that it looks a bit more dimensional over the flower it's sitting on.  I've covered portions of his wing with some orange Stickles glitter glue.  I have taken foam tape and used different thicknesses to create dimension.  I've also used the sentiment from the stamp set and made my own fish tail banner and popped that up with foam tape.  I've added some of the flowers on it and around it.

Here's a closer look at some of the details:
Here you can better see the light shimmer over the flowers along with the sparkle on the butterfly.  I have also taken a black gel pen to make the body of the butterfly pop out a bit.  You can also see the dimension I've created by attaching two of the butterflies together to open up the wing.  I've also colored the wing on the back layer too, it's hard to see in the photo.

Hope you've enjoyed my creation today and I hope to see your creation in the gallery with this week with your floral designs!

Thanks for dropping in!  See you soon!

National Love Your Pet Day - Mocca Lifts Me Up!

Hello friends!
I had noticed on the web somewhere today that it is
National "Love Your Pet" Day
So of course I got in my stamp room and pulled out some of my beloved Doxie stamps to play with!

Since the weather has been ridiculously warm over my way (It's been very unseasonably warm and record setting temperatures for my area this time of year.  Usually we get snow and cold in February and we've been getting 60 degree weather!), it was very easy to think warm Spring and colors on my design.  I happened to spot a fun color challenge to go along with my pet stamps too!

So here's what I came up with for today:
I pulled out a fave stamp set from Newton's Nook called "Delightful Doxies".  I saw they just came out with the coordinating dies to go with this, so I'm sure I'll be picking that up sometime! :)  I think the extra "string" added to this set is really fun to make your design as long as you want.  So, I took advantage of that to fill up the length of my kite so that it would fit with the length of the card too.  I wanted the front part of the doxies feet to be touching the ground as if the bottom portion of the doxie was being lifted up by the kite.  I paper pieced the kite and cut it out to place on my card and stamped the kite bows where I wanted them.  I stamped the butterfly from the set and made it appear as if it has landed on the doxie's nose.  I've also stamped the clouds from the NN's Spring Showers stamp set as I thought it would add a nice sky for the kite.

Everything was colored with my Copics and the blue in the sky was made with blue chalk.  I added some details with my black and white gel pens and I used a gold gel pen to color in the dog tag.

For the scallop border along the edge, I took a border die and cut it with some pink and mint colored card stock and attached it to my image panel and then attached that to a yellow A2 sized side folding card base.  I took a sentiment from the doxie stamp set to add to the corner of my card.
This will be a nice flat card to mail out.

I hope you've enjoyed my card today!
Before I go, I couldn't leave without sharing a photo of my beloved pet doxie Mocca:
This is her head sticking out from a pile of laundry that just came out of the dryer.
She likes the warmth and immediately comes right over when she sees the basket.  LOL!  She is such a pleasure to have as a family member and we all love her very much.  She certainly DOES lift us up in many different ways! :)

Mocca says: "Be sure to show your pet how much you love them today!"

Thanks so much for dropping by!  See you soon!

STAMPlorations February CAS card Challenge (Reminder)

Hello friends!
I'm swinging by to remind you about the
STAMPlorations February CAS Card Challenge
It's still going on and you have until February 28th to play along!

Here's the theme for this month:
Show us your CAS creations with or without the twist!  Please see the blog challenge post for complete details on entering.  I've been really enjoying the entries so far!

Here's some more inspiration I've made for this challenge to share:
I have to say that I've really enjoyed playing with this hot pink color on my creations.  It's not a color I really thought about adding or using very often, but I have really liked the results that I've gotten from it!  You can use it for many occasions.

For the card I've made here, I took the Crazy Double Running Stitch Rectangle dies to cut out an A2 sized white panel and then I used a smaller one of the die to cut out another piece with the center cut out for an opening to place over the card front.  I've used the ink foam blending tool with the Picked Raspberry distress ink over the opening and covered it completely.  I removed the mask and then sprayed it with water and dabbed the access.  I then took the Vignette: Trendy Feathers stamp set and inked up a feather with black ink and stamped it as well as the sentiment below.  I then inked the same feather image with gray ink to the right of black one.  And lastly I inked up the same feather image with VersaMark and then embossed it with gold EP.

I then took my black KG Tambi watercolor and loaded it with water on a brush and flicked some black droplets all over the card base.  I took some gold thread to make a bow and glued it over the gold feather and lastly I glued some gold sequins in random spots.  I've attached this card front to a white A2 sized top folding card base.

Here's a closer look at some of the details:
Here you can better see the gold embossing as well at the different colors on the feathers.  I have also taken a Wink of Stella clear glitter pen and went over the black feather.

Since I removed the mask and then sprayed the water over the pink, the ink ran a bit outside the lines, but I think it helps add to the character of the design.

I hope you've enjoyed my creation today and that you will be inspired to join with us this month for the STAMPlorations CAS card challenge as well!

Thanks so much for dropping by!

No Patterned Paper for Cute Card Thursday

Hello friends!
Just swinging by to share a new challenge over at
CUTE CARD THURSDAY
This week's challenge is "No patterned paper" on your creations.

I have decided to share the Valentine's Day card that I made for hubby:
I thought this little piggy was just too cute and I wanted to color him up with kisses all over his face! LOL!  This image is called "Hogs and Kisses PigWit" at From the Heart Digital Stamps.  I've also used a sketch found on their blog to make my card. (see below post)

I've used my Copic markers to color him in and then I took a white gel pen to create white dots on his red bow tie.  I took a tiny heart from a stamp set in my stash and stamped little red hearts all over his face so it looks like he's been kissed.  I fussy cut him out with my scissors and popped him up over a stitched circle and then popped that up over the two black stitched die cut panels on my red top folding A2 sized card base.  I stamped the "xoxo" (from the MFT Love You More stamp set) all over the background on the card base with the same color.  I've also taken some stickers from an old card kit I had to add to the bottom right of the card design.  I tied some gold thread around one of the black strip panels and added some gold heart sequins to match up with the sketch.

And here's a closer view of the details:
Here you can see the popped up layers and the tiny hearts that I've added to PigWit's face including over his mouth.  LOL!  I've also took my ink foam blending tool and added a bit of color on the circle panel behind PigWit so that he would stand out a bit more over the white.

And here's what I've done on the inside of the card:
The sentiment part in black was part of the "Hogs and Kisses PigWit" digital stamp set and so I printed it off my computer and then die cut the panel with the LF Cross-Stitch Rectangle dies and then I took the same stamp set that I used on the background of the front of the card and stamped the rest of the sentiment shown here with red ink.  I've attached this panel to the inside of the card and put my own personal message for hubby.

I have to say that Valentine's Day is just another day for me because my husband makes every day feel like Valentine's Day for me.  I got the love card, flowers, the special dinner and lots of hugs and kisses from him...but I have to say that I must be the luckiest girl for this is not unusual for him to send me flowers for no reason, sometimes he'll leave me a greeting card in the car for me before he leaves for work and he writes personal notes for me every day...always.  This makes it really hard to be "extra" special because it's always like this for me.  I feel loved all the time.  The bottom line is that love is taking care of each other no matter what day it is...even if it's not what you're feeling like doing at the moment...that is love.

I hope you've enjoyed my "non-patterned paper" creation today!  Please be sure to stop by the challenge blog to see the other creations and join along in the fun with us!

Thanks for stopping by and I'll be back shortly!

Today is Day 6 of the Blog Hop and here's the tag that I've made to share:
I couldn't resist making a fun treat style tag to go with this fun sentiment in the A Full Heart stamp set! LOL!  I thought it would be a great Valentine treat to give out!

I started by taking the STAMPlorations ATC Tag Builder die to cut out the ATC from the set and then used the scallop die to create a border on one side.  On the other side where the Tootsie Pop is threaded, I used the circle element die from this set as it was the perfect size for fitting the stick through.  I made two holes with it so that I could thread the Tootsie Pop through them.

For the background, I took out my KG Tambi watercolor and made a pink background.  I also took some of the shimmery looking watercolor to add to it.  I embossed the sentiment with silver EP over top of it after it dried and then I also heat embossed the heart with silver EP as well.  The heart was colored with the CC Real Brush markers.  I was trying to match up the colors with the Tootsie Pop.

The stick didn't want to stay in place, so I took some washi tape to hold it down on the back and then tied some silver cord around the neck of the Tootsie Pop so that it would also help hold it in place.

Here's a closer look at the details:
You can better see the embossing as well as some of the shimmery watercolor that I've used in the background.  I fussy cut out the silver embossed heart and popped it up over the tag with foam tape.

Thanks so much for dropping by!  I hope you've enjoyed my tag and got inspired!

Love TAGplorations Blog Hop - Day5 and {Cupcake Inspirations} Guest Designer

Hello friends!
Happy Sunday!  Hope you're all having a wonderful weekend!
I'm excited to be a special Guest Designer for the challenge over at
{Cupcake Inspirations} where STAMPlorations is sponsoring!

I hope you will be joining along with us today and every following day for this 7 day event!  The final day will actually be on Valentine's Day.  We're sharing love-themed /Valentine tags or projects with tags on it.

Today is Day 5 of the Blog Hop and here's the tag that I've made to share using the fun color combo from the {Cupcake Inspirations} challenge as well:
I have decided to play with the new STAMPlorations Zen Hearts stencil and create a heart-shaped tag design with it!  I took some red card stock and placed one of the hearts on the stencil over it and covered it with white embossing paste.  After removing the stencil and while the paste was still wet, I covered the red card stock with fine clear glitter.  After it dried, I took a pencil and lightly drew a heart shape that fit around the heart stencil design and fussy cut it out.  (I thought it gave it the appearance of a heart shaped cookie!)  I then layered the stenciled heart onto a piece of black card stock and fussy cut another heart to layer under the red one.

I took a strip of black card stock and white heat embossed the sentiment from the A Full Heart stamp set and used some foam tape to pop it up over the stenciled heart design.  Before I attached it to the heart, I took some black thread to make a nest behind it.  I've added some black sequins to the heart and then lastly punched a whole at the top of the heart and added some black twine to make it a tag.

Thanks so much for dropping by!  I hope you've enjoyed my tag and got inspired!

I hope you will be joining along with us today and every following day for this 7 day event!  The final day will actually be on Valentine's Day.  We're sharing love-themed /Valentine tags or projects with tags on it.

Today is Day 3 and here's the tag that I've made to share:
I've made a fun, colorful tag with an attached shaker tag filled with colorful confetti hearts!
To start my tag, I've used the STAMPlorations Luggage Tags Nesting dies to cut out a tag with the largest die from the set using white card stock.  I randomly stamped the double hearts image from the A Full Heart stamp set with VersaMark ink and let it dry as is.  I then used my distress inks and ink blending tool to rub various inks over the tag.  The hearts show through because the VersaMark resisted the inks.  I then heat embossed the sentiment from the same stamp set with white EP and added some stitch line around the edges with my white gel pen.

For the vellum shaker tag, I cut a smaller tag from the dies twice with vellum and then once with gold foil card stock.  I cut the middle of the gold tag out to create a frame for the vellum to show through.  I gold heat embossed the double hearts I used in the background as well as the sentiment from the A Full Heart stamp set over the vellum tag.  I attached all three tags together leaving the glue off of the top of the tags so that I could put the hearts inside.  I took more solid hearts from the Clustered Hearts die and used those for the confetti inside the vellum tag shaker.  I've attached both tags together with some sheer white ribbon and tied it off with some gold cord.

Here's a closer view of the details:
Here you can see the confetti hearts on the inside of the vellum tag as well as a closer look at the gold foil card stock tag frame and gold embossing details.  I've also added some shimmer inside of the gold embossed hearts with my Wink of Stella clear glitter pen.

Today is Day 1 and here's the tag that I've made to share:
For my first tag I was going for an elegant look especially when I saw this stunning Clustered Hearts die to play with!  (This is one of the newly released products by STAMPlorations this month.)

You'll notice that the die has a cool feature with it which cuts out this delicate frame around it separate from the solid hearts so you could use that alone by itself to have a cool look to it or you could even use some of the solid hearts themselves.  (There are 3 different sizes in this die.)  If you take a look closely at my background, you can see that I've used a couple of the solid hearts that I cut out of vellum on my background and attached them with a glue stick.  For me, this is the best way to add vellum without seeing glue marks behind it.

For the main image, I've used this die to make a "stain glass" look on my hearts.  I took the die and cut it out with some gold foil card stock, used the frame for my design and glued down several frame pieces together to get the thickness that I wanted with it and used the gold frame for the one on top.  I also cut this die out from several different colors like pink, red and rose colored card stock.  I inlaid the colored hearts inside the gold frame and then added an additional tiny solid gold heart over the large pink heart.  Because I layered all of those frames together, it sticks out further than the inside hearts which creates a small "well" for each heart.  I covered each heart with my Wink of Stella clear glitter pen and then covered the inside of each heart with a thick layer of glossy accents.  With the frame, this makes it all look like stained glass.

For the tag, I've used the STAMPlorations ATC Tag Builder die to create my tag.  I inked up the edges with some pink ink and then spritzed it with some gold shimmer spray.  I gold heat embossed the sentiment from the new STAMPlorations A Full Heart stamp set and added some pink seam binding ribbon and tied it off with some gold thread.

Here's a closer view of the details:
Here you can see the glossy shine of the stained glass hearts and the glitter underneath from the Wink of Stella pen.  I think this makes it look more like the stain glass.  You can also better see the faint vellum hearts in the background.

Thanks so much for dropping by!  I hope you've enjoyed my tag and got inspired!

Beastie Bubbles

Hello friends!
I hope you are having a great weekend so far!  Are you ready for the Super Bowl?
I know some watch and some would rather just stamp...I'm doing both! LOL!

So before I "get my game on" I'm stopping by quickly to share a card with you that I wanted to squeeze in before a couple of challenges ended which was what this was intended for:
When I saw this ADORABLE stamp set, I knew at some point I was going to get it...it's just taken me this long to finally break it out for a play!  You probably have already seen this out and about before, but it's the My Favorite Things Beast Friends.  I have to say that it is about the cutest Yeti/monster fellow that I've seen...love his smile! :)

So speaking of my NBUS (never before used stuff), I also wanted to play along with Darnell's NBUS challenge before it ends!  This week she has us playing with bubble wrap!  The last time I've played with bubble wrap, I used on a mixed media project last Spring at a retreat that I went to.  I put paint on it to add to a background for my snowman canvas.  So this time, I wanted to try something a bit different.  I decided to emboss the bubble wrap by stamping it with VersaMark ink and heat embossing it with white EP.  I used the ink resist technique to blend the colors in the background over it.  (I really like the unique look of the design from the bubble wrap!)

I used the colors and the sketch from the MFT challenges to help me put together my card.
(see details below post.)

Here's a closer view of the details:
I have colored my "beastie" with Copics and cut him out with the coordinating dies.  I've popped him up with foam squares over a cut strip of gray card stock as well as another piece cut with the MFT Sitched Oval dies.  I thought he was a bit lost with the background and wanted to ground him in front of the gray.  I think the tiny touches of black on my card make him pop out better as well.  I even stamped his little foot prints in the corner and added a couple of black enamel dots to finish it off.  I've added some white gel dots to his cheeks and cup.  I also took a black gel pen to pop out his eyeballs.

I hope you've enjoyed my card today!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, the Superbowl game or whatever it is you're doing! :)
Thanks for dropping by!

I just love the look of hot pink and black together!  They really compliment each other so nicely!
I wanted to really go as bold as I could with the pink and I think it turned pretty cool.

I have started out using a panel of white card stock and took some Picked Raspberry distress ink over the STAMPlorations Daisy Dance stencil. I removed the stencil and then added another layer of ink over the entire panel which filled in the white areas left from the stencil and then also darkened up the other areas which caused this two tone pink affect.  I then took a large flower from the STAMPlorations Bloom Sketches stamp set and white heat embossed it over the pink panel.  I then took this panel and cut it out with the CUTplorations Crazy Double Running Stitch Rectangle die.

To pair it up with the black, I have used the CUTplorations Thanks Word die to cut out the sentiment with some black card stock.  I also took a strip of black card stock and embossed the sentiment from the same Bloom Sketches stamp set to heat emboss it with white EP.  For a more interesting look, I decided to tilt my pink flower panel over a piece of A2 sized top folding black card base.  Lastly I added a few black enamel dots from my stash.

Here's a closer view of the details:
Here you can better see the details of the white embossing that I've done.

I hope you will find some time to join us this month for this fun challenge!

Be My Valentine for Cute Card Thursday!

Hello friends!
Welcome to February!  Hope you are all having a wonderful week so far!
I'd like to share a card I made for a new challenge over at
CUTE CARD THURSDAY
The challenge for this week is "Be My Valentine" - perfect for getting love mail done! :)
We can't wait to see what you come up with!

I couldn't resist using some new Lawn Fawn I have in my stash for this one:
I thought this mailbox was so stinkin' cute and perfect for sending a card in the mail to someone!
So I've used the Lawn Fawn Happy Mail dies to make the mailbox and the little envelopes with the hearts.  I have used different papers for the colors I wanted on my design.  I cut the mailbox with Lawn Fawn Chili Pepper card stock and then took a strip of LF Perfectly Plaid Christmas papers for the strip across the mailbox. (It ended up being perfect because it has a bit of pink in it!)  I also took some silver metallic paper to attach to the inside of the mailbox as well as for the post of the mailbox.  I added the flag cut with the Chili Pepper paper and then added a gray brad to hold in place on the mailbox.  For the envelopes cut with the die, I ended up using some distress inks to give the edges some shadow.  I cut the hearts out in red and pink and then stamped a smile face from the Lawn Fawn Love Letters stamp set.  (Which is where the sentiments came from as well.)  I stuck the smile envelope inside the mailbox and stuck the other one in the snow.

For the background behind the mailbox, I took the LF Cross-Stitched rectangle die to cut a piece of Ranger watercolor paper and then blended some blue distress inks gradually fading towards the bottom.  I sprayed the panel with water and then added some splatters of shimmer spray.  I also took the tiny solid heart from the LF Love Letters set and stamped it randomly in the background with silver ink.  I also took the sentiment from the same set and stamped the sentiment at the top with black ink.

For the snowdrifts, I took the LF Stitched Hillside Borders and cut out a couple of snow borders and then used the same Cross-Stitched die to match with the borders along the edges.  I popped the top snow hill with foam tape and stamped the sentiment on it before I attached it.  This mailbox panel was attached to a piece of pink card stock that was cut with the LF Fancy Scalloped Rectangle die and then mounted onto a top folding A2 sized LF Chili Pepper card base.

Here's a closer view of the details:
Here you can better see the details of the background including the stamped silver hearts all over.  You can also see the shine from the silver metallic pieces of the mailbox.
This card was so much fun to put together!  Now to send it out to a special Valentine! :)

I hope you will join us this week and please be sure to stop by the challenge blog to check out the rest of the inspiration from the design team!
Thanks so much for stopping by...I'll be back shortly, so stay tuned in!
